The Avaya BM12 button module is an additional device that enables 24 additional programmable line and feature buttons for Avaya 9408 and 9508 digital phones and Avaya 9600 series IP telephones.
For Avaya 9600 series IP phones, the BM12 receives its power directly from the 9600 series IP phone. However, for Avaya 9408 or 9508 digital telephones, an Avaya 1151C1 power supply, or currently manufactured Avaya 1151C1 equivalent (Avaya SPPOE-1A PoE Injector + Y-Adapter for PoE Injector) is required.

The BM12 Button Module works to extend the number of call appearances and feature buttons. It provides 24 additional lines for incoming calls, outgoing calls, and calling features using two pages of 12 call appearances/features each. Typical uses are:
- The device provides additional lines for calls bridged from one or more other extensions,
- Moreover, it also offers abbreviated dialing buttons, and
- Lastly, it provides buttons to access additional features like call forwarding.
Note that the call appearances the button module displays also appear in the call appearances list on your telephone. Similarly, the 9608 and 9611G also present the button module displays in the Features list on your telephone; the 9641G does not present button module features on the Features list.
